My Little Matchstick Girl painting is part of a group show in the Bronx this month, called Master Storytellers. It is located at the Poe Park Visitor Center in the Bronx and is curated by Donna Miskend. This past weekend, there was a wonderful panel of artists (Nancy Doniger, Hyo Kim, Carol Burrell, Dave Kopka, and Donna Miskend) who spoke about their processes. There was also a fascinating talk by Michael Patrick Hearn, children's literary historian, and author of Myth, Magic and Mystery: One Hundred Years of American Children's Book Illustrations, on classic story tellers, such as Edgar Allen Poe, Shakespeare, L. Frank Baum, Lewis Carroll, and others.
The show will be up until May 30. On that day, my friend and artist, Roberta Rivera, will be doing a pen and ink workshop from 11-12. The center is adjacent to the historic Edgar Allen Poe Cottage which is also worth a visit! :)
