About Me
I was born and raised in a small Central Californian town called Lompoc (pronounced “Lompoke”). I moved to New York City after graduating from art school because it was (and still is) the center of children’s publishing world in this country. It took me awhile to get started, but with the help of my rep, Chris Tugeau, I got my first illustration job and have worked as a freelance illustrator ever since.
Happily, I also met my husband here, and he and our son, Jamie, live in Brooklyn not far from the Brooklyn Bridge.
From the time I was a little kid, I’ve wanted to write and illustrate children’s books. I used to staple paper together and make tiny books for my dolls.
When I was in 5th grade, my wonderful teacher laminated and bound our stories and illustrations together into books. It is called The Dog Around the Corner, and is about a dog named Claude and his adventures in his neighborhood.
I’ve since illustrated about twenty picture books, and I recently wrote my first book, Soup Day.
If I had written my life story as a little girl, it would be pretty close to the one I am living. I get to do what I have always dreamed of doing.
